The First Decade

1981- First Dinner held at Brown University Sharp Refectroy. First Class
inducted includes 3 of RI's Olympians, John Higgins, Clara Lamore Walker,
and Doris Brennan Weir.

1982- The Class of '82 includes Olympian Basil Fransis, and Red Cross and
Lifeguarding legend's Commodore Wilbert Longfellow and Captain Roger
Wheeler. Dinner is held at the Pawtucket Country Club.

1983- Red Cross standouts Edmond Mongeon and Frank Moody are inducted with
this class.

1984- Inductees include two of the greats in high school coaching, Jim
Lynch and Ellis Mayers. The only visit of the Hall of Fame to the Alpine
Country Club.

1985- One of RI outstanding high school coaches, Ed Golden, along with
Leonard Gath, outstanding diver, are inducted with the class of '85. The
First of what will be twelve years of dinners at the Quonset Point
Officer's Club.

1986- Longtime Brown Head Coach Edward Reed, along with Carl Slader, with
over 50 years of Red Cross involvement, are members of the class of '86.

1987- Class of '87 includes standout swimmer Richard Burrows and
outstanding coach Harold Miroff.

1988- East Providence native Peter Solomon, one of RI's greastest
swimmers, along with Alice Sullivan, longtime volunteer and key in the
developement of girl's swimming are inducted with the class of '88.

1989- Class of '89 includes Constance Drew, longtimne swimming intructor,
and Gerald Jennings, All-American Diver and outstanding Coach.

1990- David Thuber, All-American swimmer, and Michael Weskott, Head Coach
of the University of Rhode Island, are inducted along with the class of
'90. The Tenth anniversary dinner includes many of the Hall's previous
inductees, and each person in attendance left with a commemorative
paperweight.
